Respite Care Program

The Respite Care Program was established in fiscal year 1998-99 to provide reimbursement for respite care. Respite care provides the foster parent with a "break" from the daily demands of foster parenting.

Eligibility

All County-licensed foster homes are eligible for respite care reimbursement. The County-licensed homes are eligible for 200 hours a year and 21 additional hours to attend training for respite care reimbursement. The respite care program can also be used when there are family emergencies such as hospitalization, death in the family, etc.

Reimbursement Rate

Foster parents are reimbursed $6 per hour for the first child and $3 for each additional child.

Contacts

There is a Respite Program Coordinator who tracks requests and ensures that reimbursement payments are processed in a timely manner. The coordinator also helps foster parents find other foster parents in their area who may be willing to provide respite care for each other. If you would like to utilize the Respite Care Program and/or provide respite care for another family, please contact us.
